Project Summary
Responding to its need for modernisation and expansion, the Leclerc hypermarket at Normanville, located in the retail park at Cape Caer, near Evreux (27), is opening a new store.
Thanks to the acquisition of an adjacent, 3.5-hectare plot of land complementing the existing site, the retail space has been completely rebuilt and increased by 1,200m2. This means the total area of the new shopping centre now exceeds 4,300 m².
Design Goals
A hypermarket of this size experiences intense daily traffic that is estimated at between 7,000 and 10,000 visits, on top of that is the almost continual passage of heavy wheeled loads from store deliveries. It is therefore essential that the entrance system be durable, safe and able to prevent the premature degradation of the adjacent floor surfaces.
Results
Considering the daily traffic, Construction Specialties recommended the Pediguard for its durability and strength, but also its ability to capture dust, dirt and moisture introduced by the daily traffic, thereby protecting the adjacent floor surfaces. The recessed mats mean that access to the shopping centre is at the same level as the subsequent floor surface, ensuring a smooth transition while respecting ERP standards on accessibility.
The modular design of the Pediguard allows quick cleaning of the recesses, while its reversibility doubles its expected lifetime. These characteristics specific to the Pediguard help to avoid slip-related accidents while offering a longevity much higher than that of conventional entrance mats.
Like all CS entrance systems, the Pediguard® is manufactured by hand and made to measure, but the one created for the revolving door at the main entrance is particularly impressive with a diameter of seven metres. To accommodate such a large mat it was cut into 36 numbered modules that overlap with each other to ensure that its 40 m² surface is perfectly symmetrical. The other entrances to the shopping centre are also protected with a 20m² entrance system designed in the same way.
