Rubber Wall Protection Package for the Seclin-Carvin hospital group

Project Summary

The premises of the technical services for the Seclin-Carvin hospital group have recently been relocated and their design has been reconsidered.

Full Case Study

The Seclin-Carvin hospital group consists of two local hospitals and a multi-site hospital in Seclin which together encompass all medical and surgical activities, as well as several EHPAD and USDL residential sites, for dependent older people and people requiring long-term care. The facility offers a total capacity of 860 beds, divided between long-term residential units and short-stay wards. This large facility employs more than 1,400 health care professionals who treat in excess of 136,000 consultations provided annually.

Design Goals

Such volumes of care require a streamlined and continuous supply of inter-service materials and consumables. The study phase of this project highlighted the importance of a technical hub designed to sustain this logistical flow. The regular unloading of goods, and the continuous passage of trolleys and packages loaded with materials increase the risk of damage to the walls and corners of the building. It was therefore necessary to find a suitable protection solution that protects against this damage, and reinforces vulnerable edges to all entrances to the service building, including those to the loading area.

Results

In response to the  expected performance requirements  of the hospital group’s  new technical space, Construction Specialties has recommended the use of its Stelatex® range. These impact solutions, which include crashrails and corner guards, absorb bumps and prevent wear and tear to walls with their dampening capabilities. Usually applied in industrial premises which experience intense use by heavy wheeled loads, their EPDM rubber composition protects corners and walls with an extremely robust facing that meets the client’s performance requirements.

The protection  begins on the exterior of the building with the corners of the loading dock protected by Stelatex®100C corner guards, and continues across  the walls of the service area with 200W30 crashrails installed  at the height of the passing vehicles. To provide  seamless protection for all spaces in the building, all entrances have also been furnished with Stelatex®100C corner guards.

The Seclin-Carvin hospital group now has a technical hub that is fully protected along the length of the supply route and is therefore able to provide its supporting functions without the worry of impact damage and high maintenance costs.
